25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

Husbands, I’m talking to you again. I’m going to steal the title of a great little book by Dr. H. Page Williams and say, “Do Yourself a Favor, Love Your Wife!”.And what is that love to look like? It should look like how Jesus loves, sacrificial, selfless, and wholehearted!

We are to give up our life for our wives. That’s part of that oneness of a man leaving his father and mother and becoming one flesh with his wife. I’m to give up my independence and become one with my wife. I am to give up looking to satisfy my needs and wants and look how I can satisfy her needs and wants. And let me tell you, it is so true that when you lose your life for another, you will find a blessing in return.

Part of our job as husbands is to present our wives to Christ as holy, washed, radiant, without stain or blemish. Now, if we constantly ridicule our wife and put her down is she going to feel radiant or holy? And if we only point out the things she does wrong, is she going to understand that she is washed without stain or blemish? Of course not. Our job is to reflect Jesus’ love for her through our looks, our words, and our actions so that it will be easy for her to accept these truths about herself.

Does your wife feel blameless when you walk in the room? Does she know by your love for her that she can stand before God clean and pure and holy and righteous? Our wives salvation is not our job, that one belongs to God. But we can sure make a difference in how they receive the Father’s love. So, do yourself a favor, love your wife!

I guess the only way my wife is going to feel blameless, clean, pure and holy by me is when I am locked into the fathers love and I can give it to her hot off the press. Sometimes she beats me to the fathers love and I feel blameless, clean pure and holy. I love a virtuous woman! And she loves a mighty man of valor.
