19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is not every day that we interrupt our conversations and start singing a song about how wonderful God is. Kind of reminds me of a Broadway musical where they don’t say it, they sing it! Have you ever known that kind of joy that is just bursting at the seems, when your heart is so full that you just can’t contain it? I think that is what Paul is getting at here.

We are to be so thankful for what God has done for us that His praise is the first thing out of our mouths in every conversation. Our interactions with others are to be marked by a heart that is overflowing with love for Jesus. And we are not to hold it back but we are to express it as we go throughout our day.

It is also important to notice that Paul doesn’t say it must be a happy song. It is ok if you are singing a ballad today. Your sadness is welcome here. The key is that your song doesn’t end there. No matter what song is on your heart today, God is still in control. God is still the all powerful creator of heaven and earth. God is still the One whose love endures forever. So, no matter whether your heart is aching to the point of breaking or full to point of overflowing God is worthy and God is good.

What is the song on your heart today? Go ahead and sing it, make it known, let it out!

I love that! Like David sing a new song. He had all kinds of emotions and craziness. God took it all. David digested that word and had it hidden in his heart. Funny , but recently I was on the mower and the Teaching stopped in my ear buds. So I decided to start singing as I knew no one could here my off key vocals, but I knew the Lord heard it from my heart to him. Some of it was very repetitious. It really gave me peace and strength. Amazing how quick God gives it right back to us . He is such a giver! I am so blessed!
