30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Do not offend or cause to suffer. When we sin, we offend the Holy Spirit. When we look at stuff that we shouldn’t be looking at, when we listen to stuff that we shouldn’t be listening to, we make the Holy Spirit sad.

What have you done lately that has grieved the Spirit within you?

If we aren’t careful, we can harden our heart to what offends God and lose sensitivity to spiritual things. This is what Paul was warning us about when He said, “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” Gal. 5:9. A little giving in here, a little compromise there, and pretty soon you’re not standing for anything!

We, as Christians, need to be for what God is for and be against what God is against. “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.” Eph. 5:11-12. So, be careful what you expose yourself to day in and day out.

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Phil. 4:8
