1 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

I think of an animal caught in a trap when I read this verse. Caught, held tight, suffering, unable to free themselves. As I come upon the scene, I am wary for other traps that might not have sprung yet. As I attempt to rescue the animal, I am cautious that I don’t become ensnared by the very trap that I am trying to free the animal from. Like watching out for the barbed hook when removing a fish from the line. I don’t want to injure the animal more so I am gentle in how I handle the injured, scared, creature. Sometimes the caught animal is aggressive and mistrustful of my intentions. Do I really have their best interest in mind. They lash out at me in their woundedness hurting themselves even more. As the trap is opened and they are set free, I am left just holding the snare.

Sounds a lot like what we do on our MMFC weekends as God brings healing to men’s hearts and sets them free from the sins that have ensnared them for years. Praise God! Thank you Lord for setting us free! Help us to continue to reach out to those who are trapped to come along side them and be your hands and feet. Protect us from these same traps and others that are waiting for us and keep our hearts focused on you through it all. Amen.
