19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Paul now gives us two lists to compare our lives against. The first list are the acts of the flesh. Take a look at that list. Recognize any of those actions? There is a stern warning associated with the acts of the flesh. Those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  • What comes up for you as you read through the acts of the flesh?

Now the second list, the fruit of the Spirit. Read through the second list again. There is no law that can kill these. No law can nullify the effect of them. No law can keep them from appearing and impacting your life.

  • What comes up for you as you read through the fruit of the Spirit?

So, does your life look more like the acts of the flesh or the fruit of the Spirit? What do you need to crucify in your flesh? How can you stay in step with the Spirit?

“I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last” John 15:16.
