You and I were once slaves. Slaves to sin. Imagine for a second being in slavery. Being chained up, forced to do what you did not want to do. Having no say in the direction of your life. Owned by another. Beaten down into submission. No belongings. No family. No love. What comes up for you as you think about being a slave?
Maybe you have trouble relating to the concept of slavery. Then, picture yourself as an orphan. All alone in this world. No one to turn to. No one there to help. Having to work and scrounge for every little scrap of food. No belongings. No family. No love. What comes up for you as you think about being an orphan?
- “You are no longer a slave, but God’s child!”
- “You are no longer an orphan, but God’s child!”
Take in the very real difference of this transformation. You were once a slave, but now you are the son of God! You were once an orphan, but now you are an heir to the King! You had nothing. Now you have access to the riches of heaven. You were alone without a family. Now you are a son to the Father, a perfect father. What does it feel like to know that you are His son?
Let your heart cry out, “Abba, Father” to the King, our Lord, our God.
