There have been five God-appointed men who mentored and coached me over the past 15 years. First, Mel Claytor, who is 25 years older than me, mentored me for 10 years and nurtured me as I was developing my Christian leadership skills. Lyman Coleman (23 years older) also mentored and challenged me for several years to develop a deeper understanding of Scripture. Three other elders have each brought a unique aspect of coaching/mentoring to encourage, promote and support me. Denis Hoelting—encouragement. “Cowboy Steve”—continual fatherly love. And, Chuck Stecker—iron-on-iron direction and vision.
Who is mentoring YOU? You need someone to come along-side of you...to tell you what you "need" to hear.

I have been mentored beginning in 1971 by Ron Shimkus, Gene Soderberg and Rod Biedler men who were on the staff of The Navigators. I continue 39 years later to look to them for advice. More recently, I received mentoring by organizations and people associated with them, including Al Anon, a course for those going through divorce called "Rebuilding When Your Relationship Ends", Led by Mary Tillapaugh, and many MMFC brothers especially Denis Hoelting, Pat Maloney and then from living with Lyman Coleman for a year while I went through my divorce. Each of these people added to my recovery from deep wounds I have carried out of childhood. Because of their interest and willingness to build into my life, I am likewise interested and willing to give myself to others for that same purpose. Of course, I can do nothing unless I am connected to the Vine myself as they have been.

My minister has been Clyde DeBello who has ben widowed for over 10 years. He teaches me humility and love of neighbor. He just turned 80 and still staffs MMFC and Gathering of men. Also Fr. Ken Leone for 30 years who has encourged, provided, and risked with Judy and myself in many growth spiritual blessings. He continues as a Soul Group brother and always keeps me in new books and ideas of what is new and enjoyable. I am blessed !!!!!!!!!!!
